JP Morgan forms sustainable investment team and launches fund

JP Morgan Asset Management has formed a new sustainable investment team and launched a new sustainable equity fund, the company has announced.

The Sustainable Investment Leadership Team (SILT) is led by Jamie Kramer, who is head of strategic product management and ESG lead for global investment management.

The new team includes portfolio managers and senior leaders who will help clients achieve their ESG goals with a globally-coordinated strategy for sustainable investing.

Commenting on the formation of the team, Kramer said: 'SILT sits at the heart of our organisation and taps into decades of ESG expertise across investment teams, governance specialists and clients facing advisors.

'It brings together insights and best practices across investment capabilities. Formalising this global leadership team creates a driving force to shape and communicate our ESG capabilities around our clients’ needs.'

Meanwhile, in December 2016 the company launched the JPMorgan Funds – Europe Sustainable Equity fund which is managed by Richard Webb, Joanna Compton and William Johnson.

They will find attractively-valued quality European companies whose governance fosters a long-term sustainability view. The companies will be judged on their performance on material ESG issues.

Commenting on the launch, Webb said: 'Companies with effective governance and superior management of environmental and social issues tend to have better profitability, operating performance, and lower costs of capital than those who do not.

'Over time, our intention is to use targeted engagement – leveraging the strong track record of our Corporate Governance Team – to help companies improve standards and practices to become more sustainable and ultimately create more value for shareholders, stakeholders and wider society.'
